While the late August deadline seems to have passed without incident for Inco Ltd at its Goro laterite nickel project in New Caledonia, the possible threat of further action from the Rheebu Nu group remains a reality. Development of the multi billion dollar Goro project was under threat recently when the Rheebu Nuu group gave management until August 24 to stop work or face further action. The group is believed to have caused 10 million dollars worth of damage to Goro in April when it blockaded roads and set fire to equipment.
