Diversified explorer Metallica Minerals Ltd has completed an infill and step out drilling program at its Bell Creek South Lease, one of the four main deposits that comprise its north Queensland nickel-cobalt (NORNICO) project. The program was primarily aimed at increasing the resource status from inferred to indicated as part of Metallica's pre-feasibility study for the heap leach nickel project. High grade highlights include 14 metres at 1.45 percent nickel and 0.04 percent cobalt from surface, 22m at 1.94 percent nickel and 0.21 percent cobalt from surface, 13m at 1.54 percent nickel and 0.23 percent cobalt from 3m, and 17m at 1.5 percent nickel and 0.07 percent cobalt from 8m. Managing director Andrew Gillies said the results confirmed the presence and continuity of high grade nickel/cobalt mineralisation within the deposit and showed that any future development of the NORNICO project would benefit from a high grade, easily accessible nickel-cobalt core on which to draw from in its early years. At the Bell Creek northwest, north and south prospects, 32 PQ diamond core holes were completed for a total of 623m during August, with the aim of providing additional geological information on each of the Bell Creek deposits plus gathering samples for ongoing metallurgical testwork and additional bulk density data.
