Histopathological study of chronic calcifying pancreatitis (CCP) from Kashmir Valley

Open surgical biopsies of 16 patients of chronic calcifying pancreatitis were studied over an eight year period. There were four males and twelve females with the mean age at presentation 35.4 years. The significant features on histology were patchylobular distribution of lesions, irregular dilatation of ducts, presence of calcified stones in only 37.5 cases and chronic inflammatory infiltrates in the intrapancreatic nerve fibres. Four cases had associated pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
