Weirton Steel chief executive and AISI chairman Richard Riederer has called upon the US government to immediately put quotas on steel imports where bilateral arrangements can be made as a stop-gap until longer term solutions can be put in place.Riederer, other US executives and the United Steelworkers union addressed a panel of legislators at an unusual US senate steel caucus hearing in Pittsburgh. The industry again made the call for a government-initiated Section 201 trade case to provide comprehensive protection from a second import surge in three years.
