It is an honor, my colleagues, to present the Joseph Helms Founder's Lecture given at the 20th AAMA Symposium. When Bob Gross invited me to speak, he said only, "Give us an historical perspective." That was certainly specific. But with that theme in mind, I set about developing the ideas I would present to you while honoring the founders of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA).
