BHPB Accelerates' 8mt/yr of met coal expansion

BHP Billiton has announced formal feasibility studies into two previously-announced met coal expansion projects in Queensland - adding about 8mt/yr to managed output beyond 2012 - plus further expansion of the associated Hay Point coal terminal. The projects, a new 5.5mt/yr Caval Ridge mine and a 2.5mt/yr expansion of the existing Peak Downs mine, would add around 13% to the company's managed met coal division output, currently running at around 60mt/yr.
