Manganese highlights

Manganese alloy markets are facing difficult times amid high costs, with rising power costs and ore costs earlier this year, and downward pressure on prices from steelmakers seeking to protect their shrinking margins as steel prices tumble in all major markets. We do not foresee any reprieve from steelmakers pushing for lower prices in the near term, but manganese alloy producers win see some relief as cost pressures recede. Northern hemisphere power prices are dedining as the rainy season begins, and while manganese ore prices remain elevated compared to alloy prices, alloy smelters have successfully negotiated lower prices in recent weeks.
