In India, liberalised government policies and resultant economic growth has emphasised the need for continuity in reforms. The entire Indian non-coal mining sector has been thrown open for both domestic and foreign private investments in exploration and production of minerals, as well as mineral waste industries. It is against this backdrop that the 19th World Mining Congress (WMC) and Expo will take place at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India, with the theme 'Mining in the 21st Century - Quo Vadis?'. The five-day event will provide a platform for debate on key issues for the minerals sector and discuss how the technology can be configured to meet emerging challenges. Some of the most advanced mining technology will also be on display at the exhibition. The Congress and Expo aims to assist in the establishment of joint ventures, technology transfer and foreign direct investment in India and developing countries. WMC is organised by the Indian National Committee of the WMC, represented by the Institution of Engineers (India).
