Soil conditions are moving upscale — the pH scale, that is — as University of Guelph researchers develop a unique solution to waste management. Land resource science professors Les Evans and Eric Beauchamp and research scientist Terry McGonigle have conducted experiments to see if furnace slag can safely raise the pH of the acidic soils in some parts of the Niagara Peninsula to levels better suited for crop production.
