The Cool Chain Association (CCA) based in Luxembourg, held one of its conferences and workshops in Cape Town this year. The host for the occasion was CCA member, South Africa's Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB), which is responsible forapproving the exports of over SAR15 billion in perishable products each year. Fruit World correspondent Michael Cordes was there to catch up on the latest developments in the fresh produce logistics sector. Approximately 30% of harvested fresh produce decays due to incorrect handling and mistakes made in the cold chain. This sobering statistic was one of the reasons for establishing the CCA in 2003 to, "synchronise the cool supply chain in order to improve the quality of perishables and temperature sensitive products (PTSP)."
