EU enlargement next year from 15 to 25 members will officially reunite the Europe divided after the last World War. It is an obligation which aims is to maintain peace and stability in the region and give all citizens equal opportunities. On 1st May 2004 ten new coun-tries will join the EU. This will bring an additional 75 million consumers to the EU's single market and will swell the total population to nearly 45 5 million. The new members come mainly from Eastern Europe: Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovak Republic and Slovenia plus the two Mediterranean islands of Cyprus and Malta. Romania and Bulgaria are expected to become members in 2007.
