A key European Union committee last week called on officials to tighten up measures designed to fight avian influenza. The European Parliament's Agriculture Committee Nov. 14 cleared a report from British Conservative Neil Parish which said that early warning systems in the 25-nation bloc must be improved. Regulators have to be told of any bird flu outbreak, even if it's suspected to be a low-pathogenic strain.
