USDA seeks to scuttle ANSI sustainable agriculture standard

The Executive Standards Council of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has scheduled a hearing Dec. 17 to consider an appeal from USDA to withdraw the accreditation of the Wisconsin-based Leonardo Academy as a developer of American National Standards, including a forthcoming sustainable agriculture standard. The Leonardo Academy, whose principal expertise is sustainable building standards, was approached last year by California-based Scientific Certification Systems to propose a draft standard for trial use (DSTU) on sustainable agriculture for adoption by ANSI.
