Labour and water: Challenges for Morocco

Moroccan farmers are forced to make technical changes to keep ahead in the flower industry, while labour productivity remains low. Amild climate, lots of sunlight, low labour costs and the European markets that are within reach, are all favourable conditions for the floriculture in Morocco. On the other hand, the productivity is low and growers face problems such as nematodes and the availability of good water. This means that growers are forced to change their production practises, though labour productivity still seems hard to improve.
