Isomers of tricresyl phosphate (TCP), a plasticizer in PVC, were detected in garland chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium) extract using GC-MS. In this study, the source of the TCP contamination was investigated. Results showed that contact of garland chrysanthemum with packaging film or PVC sheet used in greenhouses had no effect; however, TCP was detected at an average concn. of 0.03 mug/g in 16 of 20 garland chrysanthemum samples which had been in contact with PVC tubing used for warming greenhouses. Results indicate that TCP migrated to the garland chrysanthemum from PVC tubing used to keep greenhouses warm.
