Focus on breeding needed to maximise sheep profits

"Vet many breeding decisions are still based on looks alone - which could be a factor contributing to poor efficiency on some farms. Speaking at theSheep Breeders Round Table last weekend, Alex Ball, of producer-owned company Meat and Livestock Australia, explained how all Australian sheep producers received their revenue from profit without subsidy support. "Profit from sheep is possible," he said. "But the focus really needs to be on management, genetics and what die consumer wants.
