Pushing the amount of creep feed fed to calves may be seen as a way of increasing daily liveweight gains on some beef units, but that's not the case at Simon Frost's farm. In fact, feed is only introduced to bulls in early August followed by heifers afew weeks later. It's fed to a maximum of 1.5kg a calf a day and consists of a 16% protein high NDF nut, explains Harper Adams University College's beef specialist Simon Marsh.
