US shale gas to diminish “petro-power” of Middle East, Russia

US shale gas production is likely to diminish the power of traditional petroleum producing countries in Russia, the Middle East and Venezuela, a study from a US think tank has said today. The study, from the James A Baker Institute for Public Policy and funded by the US government, also concluded that domestic production would limit US natural gas imports for up to 20 years.
