Challenges standing in the way of automation in the food drink sector include space limitations and other constraints dictated by existing equipment. Supplier to Swedish and Danish markets, Atria, chose an integrated and compact robotic cell co-engineered by Omron and Case-Link to replace manual crate-packing, which has helped to quadruple operational speeds while working within the physical restrictions of legacy systems Atria Scandinavia, which supplies meat products, ready meals and delicatessen items, wanted to automate and increase production speeds in its end-of-line operation. It required a solution which would take SRS (Swedish Return System) plastic crates from an existing overhead conveyor and load them with packaged meat from a separate infeed.
