President's Column

It is hard to believe that my term of office is half over. I have never been so busy in my life balancing being; your President and maintaining my other responsibilities. But it is well worth it when I can see the progress that is being made within the GSSA. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of all of those who are making things happen. I am very pleased to be able to tell you that DeBeers has pledged R50 000 every two years, for the foreseeable future, to help support the Du Toit Memorial Lecture. Alex Du Toit worked for DeBeers for many years and DeBeers would like to publicize this relationship. Following the suggestion of the managers of the Research, Education and Investment Fund (REI Fund, formerly the GSSA Trust), the Du Toit Memorial Lecture will now be known as the DeBeers Du Toit Memorial Lecture of the GSSA.
