Malcolm Simm tells Fran Shall how he turned an acre of derelict land into a beautiful garden. Malcolm Simm used to live next door but one to his present house. Every day he would eye up the acre he now owns and dream about what he would do with it ifit belonged to him. His chance came when the elderly couple moved out in 1985 and he seized the opportunity to move in. Originally, the garden was well tended and full of fruit and veg, but it became almost completely overgrown as the gardeners grew older. It was a challenge that Malcolm began to tackle 10 years ago and, during his complete transformation of the garden, he discovered a passion for plantswith the garden and all the plants in it and now I'm looking forward to retiring so I can spend moretime visiting gardens and working in my own.'
