摘要

Some of the baby fruit on my pear tree is turning black and then dropping from the tree. What have I done wrong? It's the pear midge that's causing the problems, not you! Adult pear midges lay their eggs on the unopened flower buds. These hatch out into orange-white maggots 2mm (1/16 in) long, that feed in the developing fruitlets, leaving them black and rotten as you describe. If you cut open one of the affected fruitlets, you should find the offending maggot. The best control is to collect and burnthe damaged fruitlets when you see them. This should stop the maggots before they travel into the soil to pupate and make the next batch of adults. On a small tree, you can also try spraying with a pesticide such as Bio Long-last when the blossom is atthe white bud stage.
