Norman and Ann Holden wanted their garden on a suburban estate to be a private place for'pottering in', one to which wildlife would be attracted, Noel Kingsbury tells how their plans became reality. The clients Norman and Ann Holden are a recently retired couple, who enjoy pottering in the garden rather than seriously gardening, and who were concerned that they shouldn't take on too much. They told the designer. Lesley Rosser what features they wanted, and she then tried to incorporate them into thedesign On their list was a patio, a pond, a herb garden, a wild area, and an archway of some kind. Both Dr and Mrs Holden are interested in wildlife and wanted to maximise the value of the garden for birds and butterflies, but without having a 'wild' garden.
