How do you like your blossom - big and blowsy or delicate and discreet? Whatever your preference there's a spring-flowering tree to suit your garden, says Carolyn Marcus. Every spring our streets and gardens are made beautiful by drifts of lacy pink and white blossom. This exquisite display doesn't last forever, but it cheers everyone up at a time when winter seems never ending, Cherries (Prunus) are probably the best known spring-flowering trees but you can also choose ornamental almonds, peaches and plums. And don't forget the flowering crab apples (Malus), pears (Pyrus) and our native hawthorn or May (Crataegus).
