Janice Rogers, owner of this fabulous garden in the country town of Eye, in Suffolk, knows the feeling. But although her abundant herbaceous borders are designed to create a harmonious grand impression, she still makes space for special plants bought on a whim. "I'm constantly torn between the garden designer in me and the plantswoman," she says "It's a struggle. Garden designers tend to think about the bigger picture all the time, growing the same plants in big drifts and groups for impact. Plantspeople, on the other hand, tend to think more about particular specimens and grow them individually ".
