Scientists from the Imperial College London (UK) and the University of Turku (Finland) have successfully engineered a combination of proteins and enzymes in the E. Coli bacteria to produce Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). The original amounts that were produced are small. However, the lead author of the paper published in Nature, Patrik Jones, states that they hope to have a viable replacement for current fuel supplies in 5 to 10 years with this proof-of-concept technology.
