Buyers resist planned hikes

Converters strongly resisted polymer producers' plans to pass on the rise in petrochemical feedstock costs last month. Following a sharp dip in crude oil and naphtha prices during the first week in May, buyers of standard thermoplastics held back from making additional orders in the expectation that polymer prices would soon start to fall. As a result, producers faced rising stocks and prices came under pressure.
