Researchers at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Raleigh, have developed a new pre-treatment process to free carbohydrates from the lignin in plants. According to Ratna Sharma-Shivap-pa, associate professor in the biological and agricultural engineering department at NCSU (919-515-6746), the new pre-treatment process may pave the way for a more efficient and cost-effective way to make ethanol, biobutonal, and other biofuels from biomass.
