摘要

The first of these three photographs is part of a miscellaneous collection, in the archive of W G Bagnall Limited, the Stafford locomotive builders and railway engineers. The collection would appear to have consisted of views of locomotives and other railway equipment that various people and organisations had, over the years, sent to the company. This would presumably have been on the assumption that they would be of interest to the management. For example, photographs of locomotives the firm had built in their day to day working environment, along with others by different manufacturers the company had been involved with. Whoever it was who sent this one, must have thought that it was either a Bagnall, or that the company had been involved with it in some way. As evidence of the latter point, some of the photographs are of engines built by different manufacturers that the company had supplied spare parts for or indeed, in some cases, parts to make quite substantial modifications. Such modifications included for example, new piston valve cylinders and valve gear and superheated boilers.
