Nebraska consultant tries to clear up confusion over what ultrasound can "truly" predict. Ultrasound works by sending out ultrasound waves. The waves bounce off tissue and come back to the machine, where they're recorded. All ultrasound machines use this same principle. In the world of ultrasound, there are two styles: alpha and beta. Alpha is new to cattle use and is currently used only for measuring backfat. Beta is the normal ultrasound used to measure cattle.
