Cryptosporidiosis and pneumonia are two totally different diseases, but they have one thing in common -they're opportunistic in nature. That is, the organisms that cause these diseases are usually present, but can't develop unless the immune system is compromised. This is true in humans as well. Crypto was quite rare in humans until the advent of the HIV epidemic. It has now become one of many "rare" diseases that infect AIDS patients.
