Classification and phylogeny of dermestids (Coleoptera, Dermestidae)

A phylogenetic analysis of the family Dermestidae has been performed on the basis of 36 morphological characters of adults, larvae, and pupate. A cladogram and a phylogram of Dermestidae are presented. The anagenetic component on the phylogram is reflected by the length of inter nodes, proportional to the number of apomorphic characters. A new classification of the Dermestidae is proposed. The family is divided into three subfamilies: Dermestinae, Anthreninae, and Orphilinae. The first subfamily comprises the tribes Dermestinii, Marioutini, and Thorictini; the second, the tribes Attagenini, Trinodini, Anthrenini, Thylodriini; and the third is monotypic. The tribe Marioutini is subdivided into the subtribes Marioutina and Rhopalosilphina; the tribeAttagenini, into the subtribes Attagenina and Egidyellina; and Trinodini, into the subtribes Trinodina and Trichelodina. Diagnoses of these taxa are given.
