This fiscal SAIL will be lined up for disinvestment. According to the annual report of the Department of Disinvestment (DoD) for 2000-2001, SAIL is selling some units of the company and disinvestment would be taken up for consideration in 2000-01. The erstwhile Disinvestment Commission had recommended no disinvestment in SAIL currently. It had also asked the government to assist SAIL in writing off the losses of its subsidiary, IISCO as well as sale of the latter. It had also recommended conversion of SAIL's Steel Development Fund (SDF) dues into equity. The Centre had last year approved a massive financial restructuring plan for SAIL.
