This short three-month period will stay in my memory for life. It allowed me to see people with different cultures, ways of living and outlooks on life. The people were always friendly by inviting us into their homes for fermented horse milk, cheese and weak tea. I even got a chance to milk a mare after telling them I came from a dairy farm! Another memory that sticks in my mind is the concert that one community performed to us and I was asked to sing the Welsh National Anthem in front of them. I may be the first person to do that. Expeditions of this kind are fantastic for young people before venturing into the harsh reality of a working life. A different outlook on life is born and a wider perspective on reality is gained. Young people should be encouraged to join expeditions of this kind to expose themselves to a different environment. More people from Wales should be encouraged as I was the only one on the whole project.
