Comment on 'Methodological Innovations from the Sociology of Emotions - Theoretical Advances'

Emotions are an emergent feature of interaction, and many of the articles in this special section touch on this. What I find interesting is that we get a glimpse into how emotions unfold in a situation, and how the flow of emotions in any study can run from participant to participant, participant to researcher, and researcher to participant. Part of this flow of emotions is influenced by reflexivity or the awareness of self and other feeling states, which is addressed by some of the contributors. What is particularly challenging is how to carefully study emotions as they surface in situations, and many of the contributors encourage us to pause and think about how to do this.
