GOLFENVIRONMENT AWARDS

After visiting over 20 UK golf clubs (from Edinburgh to Taunton and from Aberystwyth to Margate) as part of the Golf Environment Awards competition, the message that has come across is that golf has the potential to be a major player in improving thebiodiversity and natural heritage of the United Kingdom. Indeed, the role of golf courses may become more and more important as agriculture intensifies its production in order to provide food security for the UK, leaving less land available to allow Nature to flourish. The present day requirement for more housing will also place greater demands on available land. So any land use which preserves, enhances and promotes a variation of habitats for wildlife will become of increasing importance for the UK'snatural heritage.
