This article questions the effects of economic policies on the development of dairy farming in Senegal. A more detailed analysis of the dairy sector has shown that the sector relies heavily on imports of dairy products such as milk powder and highlighted the many factors involved in the trade as well as interactions that exist or may exist between urban consumers, the processing units, the producers, the global market and national policies. To take into account all these factors in our analysis, we use a sectoral model which takes into account the risk, the time and the spatial dimension. Three simulation sets are conducted to answer our main question and support our hypotheses. The first relates to the tariff policies The second relates to policies based on subsidies to investment. The third is the combination of two policies.
