New caster allows Handan to double CSP capacity

China's Handan Iron Steel has unveiled plans to install a second 1.25m tpy continuous thin slab caster at its works in Hebei, effectively doubling capacity at its compact strip production (CSP) plant.The expansion will allow Handan to achieve a 100 percent continuous casting ratio at the CSP plant, developed by German plantmaker SMS Demag and brought on stream in December 1999. Handan's existing slab caster can meet only half of the CSP plant's annual rolling capacity of 2.5m tonnes. Installation of the new plant, again by SMS Demag, will be completed by the end of 2002, a Handan spokesman told MB.
