AngloGold criticises Newmont offer for Normandy

AngloGold has criticised Newmont Mining's offer for Australian gold producer Normandy Mining and is reviewing the terms and structure of its own bid (MB Nov 19).The South African gold producer said the Newmont proposal was "complex and highly conditional". It warned Norm-andy's shareholders that they would not receive their consideration from Newmont until late February or early March 2001, during which time Newmont's bid could look less appealing. AngloGold's offer closes on December 14.
