Petrobras and its partners have announced plans to invest USD18 billion to reduce Brazil's dependency on imported gas. Elsewhere, Royal Dutch Shell signed a deal with Qatar Petroleum to tap into that country's huge natural gas fields in the Persian Gulf. And, China stated that it welcomes foreign investment in natural gas field development and plans to more than double its current gas production to 1.59 Tcf (45 Bern) by 2010.
