Hot tap flushing system revives hurricane-damaged Typhoon field

When natural disasters strike, they create situations that require immediate attention, and creative thinking becomes a very valuable commodity. Hurricane Rita left considerable damage in her wake when she roared through the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) in 2005. Included in that damage was the Typhoon oil field in central Green Canyon 236 and 237 in the GoM 100 miles (161 km) off the Louisiana coast. Field operators were confronted with a tension-leg platform (TLP) whose hull and topsides were capsized along with flowlines and sub-sea infrastructure that had been ripped apart and scattered.
