Record ROP in HP/HT field: Advances in diamond-impregnated bits and motor drive technology overcome HP/HT drilling challenges in the Tuscaloosa Trend

Since shortly after its discovery in 1975, the Tuscaloosa Trend, an Upper Cretaceous fluvial-deltaic sandstone that trends upward from the west, in Louisiana, to the northeast, through Mississippi and into Alabama, has seen nearly continuous drilling. Geologic uncertainties and varying pressure profiles present drilling challenges in the deep, high-temperature gas wells here.
