As excitement continues to build for this year's Olympics, the sports and leisure industry is riding high on the national agenda. Whilst the venues will be under scrutiny as a reflection of our national sporting excellence, so too will the impact these buildings have on the environment. Emphasis has been placed on highlighting the merits of our building industry and providing sustainable sports venues for future generations. The Coalition - in its ambition to become 'the greenest government ever' - has set the target of halving the country's CO_2 emission levels by 2050. With the sports and leisure sector consuming an approximate £700m of energy every year1, it is an area that we need to take seriously if we are to meet the government's stringent energy targets.
