ABE WORKING WITH LOCAL COLLEGES

Placement Students in Building Control were introduced to the benefits of ABE Membership during a recent three-day Induction Course, organised by Building Control Northern Ireland. The placement year is a very important part of any degree course and is central in developing students' understanding of construction. This gives them the opportunity to put into practice all the theory they have learned in the previous two years and gain in-depth knowledge that can only be obtained by experiencing what actually goes on on-site. Over the years Building Control has taken on many students and has found, to its benefit, that quite a number of past students have gone on to become Building Control Officers. Many of the Placement Students, in an effort to gain experience, are having to work for no pay - this is a sad reflection on our industry and one which hopefully will change in the near future.
