INVESTIGATING THE SUPPLY CHAIN PHENOMENON PART THREE: BARRIERS TO DEPLOYMENT AND ADVOCATED SOLUTIONS

The extent of the impact that SCM has on the UK Construction Industry has been examined and the extent of performance improvement since deploying SCM established. Generally respondents indicated great improvements and the results suggest that contractors will have a greater understanding of suppliers' capabilities and of customer requirements by deploying SCM. Organisations seeking to gain a competitive advantage via SCM would appear to be able to achieve their set objective. The problematic issues associated with SCM deployment and the most significant barriers to SCM have been identified. This paper has also identified the requirements for improving SCM deployment within UK construction-related organisations and further, it suggests reasons why establishments are not achieving all of the advocated benefits associated with its application.
