This book is a compendium of chapters written by lead author Peter Barrett and sixteen contributing academic authors. It is based on a collection of five mini-reports produced as a result of research undertaken by the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) 'Revaluing Construction' task group, supplemented by specialist contributions. The book asks a straightforward question 'how can the construction industry maximise its contribution to the creation of value within society?' As one can immediately and easily imagine, the answer is much less straightforward and vexed in its complexity. The answer lies in the desire, capability and determination of the construction industry to adapt, change and improve its practices as its world evolves. Notwithstanding, decades of criticism have passed scorn on perceived shortfalls in economic, governmental, organisational and project performance within the industry.
