I have a confession to make. I was invited to the launch of this book and I listened as the Consultant Editor told us all how practical and useful it was. Bering my usual cynical self, I assumed that this was wishful thinking on his part, and so it has fallen to me to review this new publication from RICS Books. The book is at once friendly with a subject that is normally dry and not one for a holiday read. The law of Landlord and Tenant is one which has both reacted to and been shaped by the commercial climate and, in particular, the difficulties for businesses in the absence of adequate codes and regulation. The Landlord & Tenant Act 1954 was the milestone and until two years ago was the Act for business tenancies. The Law Commission undertakes periodic review of legislation, but implementation often takes some time.
