Influence of paclobutrazol in citrus rootstocks

We have analysed the effects of paclobutrazol in 6 months old seedlings of Citrus macrophylla and Citrus aurantium (bitter orange), grown under greenhouse conditions. The parameters analysed were: dry weight of the aerial parts and roots, internode length, leaf shape, stomatal density and transpiration. Paclobutrazol treatments reduced growth and produced shorter internodes and smaller leaves in both rootstocks, also causing alterations in the stomatal density and transpiration. Paclobutrazol induced changes in the root morphology of Citrus macraphylla, whereas the root system was not affected in Citrus aurantium, which did show major changes in the aerial parts.
