Lukoil Gets EBRD Loan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) says it will lend $300 million to Lukoil to finance the modernization of the Russian oil producer's TGK- 8 power unit. Lukoil took control of TGK-8 last year when it bought an 80% interest from IFD Capital. TGK-8 has a generating capacity of roughly 3.6 GW, mainly in southern Russia, where it is carrying out several gas projects. Gas from Lukoil's Caspian fields may feed the power producer, which uses around 6 Bcm/yr of gas. TGK-8, in turn, is in a prime position to supply power for the gas projects.
