Global Refined Products Trade Set to Grow as Economy Recovers

International trade in refined petroleum products has always had second-billing to the much larger volumes of crude oil flows. Yet before the economic crisis hit, signs were emerging that global trade in high-value refinery outputs such as diesel and gasoline could become increasingly important. The global recession certainly curtailed trade flows of these products, as it did for most goods. US imports of refined products, for example, were off 43% in July from two years prior, according to Department of Energy data.
